MILFORD, Mass. — A season defined by growth, teamwork, and determination has led the Milford 10U softball team to the biggest stage of its season.

The Milford squad will compete for a league championship Tuesday evening after overcoming challenges and making significant strides throughout the spring season.

Head coach Lauren Ciccarelli said one of the team’s greatest accomplishments has been the development of players across the roster, particularly those who were new to the sport.

“We have a mix of fourth and fifth graders,” Ciccarelli said during an interview on The Zone on MyFM 101.3. “Starting off with softball, it’s a very difficult sport to learn and we have some newbies. By the end of the season, we all were contributing. Everyone was getting hits, the girls were having a ton of fun, and we made it all the way to the championship.”

As the team prepares for its title matchup, one of the primary focuses has been helping younger players adjust to kid-pitch softball, a challenge many experienced for the first time this season.

“Some of our younger players were actually facing kid pitch for the first time,” Ciccarelli said. “We try to get in early and get a good batting practice in for everyone to see a little bit of live pitching and focus on where that strike zone is.”

While the team’s championship appearance may have exceeded outside expectations, Ciccarelli said she saw signs of success from the beginning, pointing to the players’ positive attitudes and strong chemistry.

“I always felt like their energy and their vibes were really good,” she said. “They’re cheering each other on, they all became friends, and seeing some of the plays we’ve worked on all year finally happen in games has been really rewarding.”

Throughout the season, the team showed its versatility, with players rotating between infield and outfield positions while continuing to improve defensively. Ciccarelli highlighted several double plays and other key defensive moments as examples of the team’s progress.

More importantly, she credited the team’s camaraderie as a major factor behind its success.

“I think having good camaraderie with the girls is important,” Ciccarelli said. “I saw that from the beginning. I’m not totally surprised by where we’ve ended up, but I’m very happy.”

The championship game is scheduled for 6 p.m. at the Milford High School softball field, home of the Scarlet Hawks varsity program. Ciccarelli expects a fun atmosphere and encourages members of the community to come out and support the team.

“It’s a beautiful place to watch a game,” she said. “It’s certainly going to be a lot of fun.”

For Milford’s young players, the championship game represents the culmination of months of hard work, learning, and teamwork. Regardless of the outcome, the team’s remarkable growth throughout the season has already made it a memorable year for players, coaches, and families alike.
