WRENTHAM, MASS. —The King Philip Warriors completed a remarkable postseason run on Saturday, defeating Somerset Berkley Regional 14-1 to capture the MIAA Division 2 Softball State Championship.
After a competitive start, the Warriors seized control in the third inning, erupting for nine runs to break the game open. King Philip wasn’t finished there, adding four more runs in the fourth inning to build an insurmountable lead and cruise to the title.
The offense was firing on all cylinders throughout the championship game. Leadoff hitter Annabelle Curran set the tone, going 4-for-5 with three RBI and two runs scored. Ali Gill delivered one of the game’s biggest performances, finishing 3-for-5 with a double, triple, and home run while driving in four runs.
Liv Wainwright, Lauren Griffin, and Kelly Donahue also turned in multi-hit efforts as the Warriors piled up runs and consistently put pressure on the Somerset Berkley defense.
In the circle, ace McCoy Walsh capped off her stellar postseason with another dominant outing. Walsh pitched a complete game, allowing just one earned run while striking out 12 batters. The championship performance was the latest in a string of dominant efforts from the standout pitcher, who recorded 52 strikeouts across King Philip’s four tournament victories.
The title game served as a fitting conclusion to one of the most impressive playoff runs in recent memory. The Warriors outscored their opponents 58-1 over the course of the tournament, earning their first state title since 2016.
