MARLBOROUGH — Special Olympics Massachusetts athletes took to the road in Marlborough for the Tournament of Champions Cycling competition, with riders competing across several divisions in both traditional and Unified events.
The Marlborough Hills Cycling competition featured 3K and 10K road races, with athletes divided into competition groups and medals awarded within each division.
In the 3K Road Race, Ashley Guerin won Division 1 with a time of 10:05, followed by Laura Zimmerman at 11:39. Daniel Lundin captured Division 2 in 6:50, narrowly ahead of Jeremy Smith at 6:57, while William Byers finished third in 8:09.
Hugh Robinson won Division 3 with a time of 8:20, followed by Sean Curtis at 10:21. In Division 4, Colson Tacosik took gold in 7:39, Noah Martins earned silver at 8:56 and Patrick Scherer finished third at 13:18.
The competition also included a 3K Unified Road Race, pairing Special Olympics athletes with Unified partners. Julia Ann Mounsey and Bob Russell earned gold with a time of 10:33. Brave Marijamie Ramos and Maria Berardinelli finished second in 11:36, while Aimee Atwood and Timothy Atwood took third at 14:24.
Athletes also competed over the longer 10K distance.
Emma Ledwith won Division 1 in 24:59, followed by Abigail Thaxter at 26:48 and Mackenzie Green at 26:53. Seven Hills Nickerson earned the Division 2 gold with a time of 24:59, followed by Erica Cyr and Rebecca Robinson.
Adam Kettani took first in Division 3 in 24:59, with William Carroll second and Christopher Dunn third. Michael Wilson also recorded a winning time of 24:59 in Division 4, followed by Donald Russell and Jeremy Smith.
The cycling event was part of the Special Olympics Massachusetts Tournament of Champions, giving athletes an opportunity to compete for state-level honors while showcasing their training and accomplishments across multiple race distances and divisions.
