Potential Staff Cuts Loom as Grafton Schools Face Budget Shortfall

GRAFTON – Grafton schools may have to cut several jobs to rein in the next school budget. Town officials have been meeting in recent weeks to address what they project could be a budget shortfall of more than $1.4 million, with most of that gap coming from the school department.

According to The Community Advocate, at a recent meeting the superintendent raised the possibility that, without a tax override, the district could be forced to eliminate up to 18 full-time instructional positions. Officials warned that such reductions could have a direct impact on classroom sizes as well as the breadth of curriculum offered to students.

Town and school leaders continue to review options as they work toward a balanced budget, with the potential for cuts or an override expected to be a major topic of discussion in the months ahead.
