FRANKLIN – Three local school districts are receiving state funding to expand civics education and help students better understand government and their role in their communities.
Benjamin Franklin Classical Charter School in Franklin will receive $6,650, while Bellingham Public Schools has been awarded $24,900 and Milford Public Schools will receive $44,700 through the state’s Civics Teaching and Learning Grant program.
The grants are intended to support high-quality civics education for students across Massachusetts.
Elementary and Secondary Education Commissioner Pedro Martinez says strong civics education helps students make connections between what they learn in the classroom and the world around them.
The three local awards total $76,250 in funding for civics education.
