The Massachusetts American Legion Fastpitch softball playoffs concluded last night with Webster-Dudley Legion capturing the inaugural championship over Oxford in Webster, MA. This marks the culmination of the league’s second season, and its first to feature playoffs.
Both Sturbridge and Oxford joined the league this year, expanding competition and setting the stage for a mid-summer playoff. Franklin Post 75, despite a valiant effort and a 3–7 regular-season record, fell in the early knockout rounds. Meanwhile, Webster and Oxford emerged as the clear frontrunners, posting the best records and carrying momentum into the title game.
In the championship matchup, Webster’s powerhouse offense and stingy defense combined for an 8–0 rout of Oxford. The champions flexed their depth, multiple hitters recorded extra-base hits, and the pitching staff allowed no earned runs to demonstrate they were the class of the league.
Franklin and other posts will look to learn from this inaugural postseason, aiming to improve next summer. Webster-Dudley’s sweep of the finals sets a high bar: opponents will return hungrier, and the league itself looks poised to add more teams and strengthen its playoff structure in 2026.
