WRENTHAM, MASS. —The King Philip Warriors made history Friday night at Polar Park, defeating Milton 4-1 to capture the MIAA Division 2 Baseball State Championship, the first state title in program history.

King Philip wasted little time taking control of the championship game, scoring two runs in the top of the first inning to seize an early advantage. Milton answered with a run in the second, but the Warriors’ pitching and defense kept the Wildcats from generating any further offense.

The game remained tight until the sixth inning when King Philip delivered a pair of insurance runs to extend its lead to 4-1. Those additional runs proved to be more than enough as the Warriors closed out the historic victory.

Thomas Lufty, Cooper Sisti, and Nick Broughton each drove in runs for King Philip. Lufty also provided one of the game’s most memorable moments by stealing home, helping account for the Warriors’ four-run output.

On the mound, Matt Labriola turned in a championship-caliber performance. The right-hander worked 6.2 innings, allowing just one earned run while striking out five batters. Labriola consistently worked out of trouble and kept Milton’s lineup in check throughout the night.

With two outs remaining, Jacoby Cady entered in relief and recorded the final out, setting off a celebration as the Warriors secured the program’s first state championship.
