BELLINGHAM – A busy Bellingham highway interchange could be among the first locations to receive new technology aimed at preventing wrong-way crashes.
State officials are looking to expand Massachusetts’ wrong-way driving detection program following several high-profile incidents, including a crash last month that claimed the life of a Massachusetts State Police trooper.
According to the Franklin Observer, the Route 126 interchange at I-495 in Bellingham is among the locations being considered for improvements. Potential upgrades include redesigned ramps, enhanced signage, flashing LED warning systems, and sensors that would automatically alert law enforcement if a vehicle enters a roadway in the wrong direction.
The initiative is part of a broader statewide effort to improve roadway safety and reduce fatal crashes.
