MILFORD, Mass. — Steve DiVitto’s connection to Milford athletics runs deep. A Milford High graduate, longtime coach, and community member, DiVitto is now leading the Scarlet Hawks athletic department with a vision rooted in pride, accountability, and resilience.
After being named interim athletic director in February and recently assuming the role permanently, DiVitto said his goal is to foster a culture that extends beyond wins and losses.
“I think a sense of responsibility, a sense of pride, and understanding that it means more,” DiVitto said. “It’s more than just yourself.”
DiVitto wants student-athletes, coaches, and families to embrace the process of high school athletics, understanding that challenges and adversity are part of the journey. He believes accountability and resilience are among the most valuable lessons sports can teach.
“Being accountable and learning life lessons is way more valuable than any win or loss you’re ever going to have,” he said.
In his first few months as athletic director, DiVitto has been impressed by the dedication of Milford’s coaches, administrators, and support staff. He credited the community’s strong sense of pride and support as one of the town’s greatest strengths.
“Milford is a resilient town,” DiVitto said. “When push comes to shove, we support our own.”
That perspective has been shaped by nearly two decades as a coach, including his current role with Milford Legion Baseball. DiVitto said coaching provided valuable preparation for overseeing an entire athletic department and understanding the year-round commitment required to build successful programs.
“My job is to put our coaches and student-athletes in the best position possible to succeed,” he said.
