BRIDGEWATER — A case that deeply affected the local community is now moving toward trial.
Rachel Kadis and her partner raised nearly $18,000 last March through a GoFundMe campaign intended to help Gregory Bobst, a well-known homeless man who had lived in Bridgewater for more than a decade. Bobst died before receiving any of the funds raised in his name.
Police allege the money was never turned over and instead disappeared. The couple recently sought to have the charges dismissed, but a judge denied that request. The case is now scheduled to go to trial in May.
The situation has left many residents feeling betrayed, as the fundraiser was built on community goodwill and support for someone widely regarded as a familiar and beloved presence in town. The legal process will now determine what happened to the funds and whether criminal wrongdoing occurred.
