MASSACHUSETTS – National Grid customers are being warned about a scam in which callers claim they are collecting past-due bills related to a supposed merger. The scammers reportedly threaten immediate shutoff unless customers pay using a prepaid card, cryptocurrency or a payment app.
National Grid says while the company may contact customers about their accounts or service, it will never demand immediate payment through third-party payment cards or apps or threaten customers with immediate service termination.
