FDA Approves Boston Scientific’s Non-Opioid Back Pain Treatment

By MyFM’s Claire Beverly – Marlborough’s Boston Scientific has gotten FDA approval for a back pain treatment that does not rely on opioids. The WaveWriter Alpha spinal cord stimulator device is used to treat low back and leg pain that comes from non-surgical back pain. The Worcester Business Journal reports the device has been in use for other types of pain since 2020. It was approved for back pain after a one-year randomized trial in which they say 84% of patients treated with the WaveWriter system saw significant pain relief.
