Uxbridge’s baseball team was locked in a pitcher’s duel yesterday against Nashoba, but the Spartans came out on the wrong end of a 4-1 result. The game remained tight for most of the afternoon before the Wolves broke through with two runs in the third and added two more in the sixth to create the separation they needed.
Uxbridge did manage to scratch across a run in the top of the seventh, but the late push was too little too late. Caleb Gaultz drove in the Spartans’ lone run with an RBI single that brought home Willem Haker, but Nashoba’s lead was already too difficult to overcome. It was the kind of game where every mistake mattered, and the Wolves capitalized more efficiently when the opportunities came.
The loss drops Uxbridge to 5-4 on the season and gives the Spartans their second defeat in the last three games. Even with that setback, the team has shown it can compete with quality opponents and keep games close.
Uxbridge now turns to Bay Path later today at 3:30 p.m. The Minutemen are 3-4 but have won two straight, including victories over Hopedale and Burncoat, so the Spartans will need to get the offense moving early if they want to bounce back. A strong night from the top of the order, starting with Willem Haker, could help Uxbridge get back on track.
