UXBRIDGE — The Pan-Mass Challenge is bringing its PMC Kids Ride program to Uxbridge for the first time this weekend, giving young cyclists a chance to take on the trails at West Hill Dam while raising money for cancer research and care.
The inaugural mountain bike ride is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 29 from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Young riders from the community will be able to participate in the event while supporting Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Organizers say 100% of every rider-raised dollar goes directly to Dana-Farber.
Among those participating will be Declan, the event’s Pedal Partner. PMC Pedal Partners are pediatric patients at the Jimmy Fund who are paired with riders and teams raising money in their honor.
Declan is now 10 years old and was diagnosed with a brain tumor at age 3.
The PMC Kids Ride program is part of the Pan-Mass Challenge’s broader annual fundraising effort and features youth bike-a-thons throughout New England. The program is open to children ages 2 to 15 and is designed to give younger riders an opportunity to take part in the fight against cancer.
Saturday’s Uxbridge event will combine outdoor recreation with fundraising, introducing a new local component to the PMC Kids Ride program.
The inaugural Uxbridge PMC Kids Ride takes place Saturday, Aug. 29 from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at West Hill Dam.
