HUDSON — Hudson Post 100 was unable to overcome a strong pitching performance Thursday night, falling 5-1 to Framingham Post 117 in District 5 American Legion Baseball action.
Framingham took the lead with a run in the second inning before breaking the game open with a four-run fifth. Hudson avoided the shutout in the seventh when Joey Farrell drove in Blake Freitas, but the late rally was not enough to overcome the deficit.
Hudson managed four hits on the evening, with Freitas, Garrett Mahoney, Jackson Libby, and Brady Quirion each collecting one. Freitas scored the team’s lone run after leading off with a single, while Farrell picked up Hudson’s only RBI with a run-scoring groundout.
On the mound, Will Hastings turned in a solid outing despite taking the loss. The right-hander pitched five innings, allowing five runs—just one of them earned—on four hits while walking two and striking out two. Jacob Cramer worked a scoreless sixth inning in relief, allowing one hit and striking out one.
Hudson’s defense was charged with five errors, allowing Framingham to capitalize on extra opportunities. Despite surrendering just five hits, the miscues proved costly as only one of the five runs allowed by Hastings was earned.
The pitching staff did its part to keep Hudson within striking distance, combining to limit Framingham to five hits over six innings. However, Hudson was unable to solve Framingham starter James Winders, who struck out 11 while holding Post 100 to one run over a complete-game effort.
