HOPKINTON/ASHLAND – A recent recycling and reuse event made a big impact in the community.
The Hopkinton Sustainable Green Committee announced that participants from Hopkinton and Ashland helped divert an estimated 7 tons of material from the waste stream—giving those items a second life instead of sending them to landfills.
Among the collected items were 4 tons of textiles, 1,600 returnable cans and bottles, around 250 books, and 1 ton of shredded materials. The event also helped properly process 126 dehumidifiers and more than 300 larger household items, including furniture, mattresses, and air conditioners.
Organizers say the event highlights the power of community participation and the positive impact of recycling and reuse efforts.
