DOUGLAS – The Douglas Heritage & Honor Committee is inviting residents to take part in a day of patriotism, community pride, and family fun during the town’s Independence Day Parade and Block Party on Saturday, June 27th.
The celebration, which also commemorates the upcoming 250th anniversary of the United States and Douglas’ 280th anniversary, will begin with an 11 AM parade through downtown Douglas, followed by a community block party at Soldiers Field.
Organizers are currently seeking local veterans to march in the parade and are encouraging community members to register for the Douglas 250th Apple Pie Contest. The final day to enter the pie contest is June 23rd, with judging scheduled for parade day on June 27th. Participants are asked to drop off their pies between 10 AM and 1 PM at Soldiers Field, with judging beginning at 2 PM.

The parade itself promises plenty of hometown excitement. For example, the renowned Pipes and Drums of Worcester will lead the Bicentennial-themed parade. Organizers note that the group consists of sworn law enforcement officers who proudly carry on a rich musical tradition.
Local businesses, community groups, and youth organizations will also be represented throughout the parade. McGoldrick Property Services LLC will feature a truck and 16-foot trailer in the procession, while the town’s T-Ball team it sponsored this season will ride on the float. In addition, refreshments will be provided for veterans who participate in the parade.
Following the parade, residents can head to Soldiers Field for a block party featuring food trucks, entertainment, games, music, and activities for all ages.
Organizers say the event is shaping up to be a true community celebration and a chance for neighbors to come together for a memorable summer day.
Residents interested in marching as a veteran or entering the Apple Pie Contest are encouraged to contact the Douglas Heritage & Honor Committee at [email protected] or reach out to Matt McGoldrick at [email protected].
