MENDON/UPTON – Residents in both Mendon and Upton have approved tax overrides aimed at helping the Mendon-Upton Regional School District close a major budget gap for the upcoming fiscal year.
Last week, Mendon voters approved a $1.1 million override by a 724-485 vote, while Upton voters had previously passed a $2.45 million override. Together, the measures help close a $4.1 million shortfall in the district’s proposed $48.3 million FY2027 budget. According to the Mendon Commons, officials warned that failure of the overrides could have resulted in the loss of 84 positions, roughly a quarter of the district workforce.
