HOPKINTON — Parents hoping to send their children to Keefe Regional Technical High School will now face a new lottery-based admissions system. The change was outlined last week during a presentation to the Hopkinton School Committee, where Keefe officials explained that the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education is revising the admissions rules.
Under the new system, the five member communities that send students to Keefe — Hopkinton, Holliston, Framingham, Ashland, and Natick — will each be allotted a limited number of available seats, rather than open access based solely on interest and eligibility.
According to The Hopkinton Independent, the shift comes as Keefe Regional Technical High School is in line for a major renovation project, though officials cautioned that the upgrade process could still be several years away, limiting capacity in the meantime.
