MEDWAY – With students returning to school, Medway Police Chief William Kingsbury is clarifying the age requirements surrounding bicycles and other micromobility devices.

According to Kingsbury, riders of all ages can use traditional pedal bicycles on public ways and sidewalks while traveling to school or at other times. Riders of all ages can also operate Class 1 and Class 2 e-bikes on public ways when traveling to school.

Motorized scooters have additional restrictions. Riders must be at least 16 years old and have a valid learner’s permit or driver’s license to operate a motorized scooter to and from school.

Police are also reminding residents that electric motor bikes are intended for off-road use and should not be treated the same as street-legal e-bikes.
