The Hopkinton Hillers girls’ volleyball squad turned in a strong performance last night against Westwood, clean sweeping the Wolverines. This comes after their match against Algonquin Monday night, where they earned a clean sweep and extended a sharp early-season run. After a heartbreaking five-set loss to Nipmuc Regional, the Hillers regrouped quickly and have rattled off wins: 3-0 over Dedham, 3-1 over Holliston, 3-0 over Algonquin, and 3-0 over the Wolverines.
Balance has been Hopkinton’s calling card. Junior Evie Woodbury, senior Sofiah Wightman Kraus, and junior Sydney Stephen have been leading the attack and the defense. In the Holliston match, Evie posted 16 kills, three assists, and nine digs, while Sofiah had 17 kills and six solo blocks. Sydney excelled in serve, receive, and defense, recording 32 receptions and 30 digs against the Panthers.
Those performances show Hopkinton’s depth and the ability of multiple players to step up in big moments. Last season, the Hillers reached the Round of 8 as the No. 4 seed in D2, and this year’s blend of returning upperclassmen and emerging underclass talent gives them a real chance to make noise again.
Their rotations, blocking, and back-row play have tightened, and the attackers are finishing more consistently. They will look for their fifth straight win against the Norwood Mustangs on Monday at 6:30 PM at home.
