The Uxbridge Spartans baseball team turned in a statement performance Wednesday, blanking No. 8 Clinton 7-0 on the road to advance to the Division 4 quarterfinals. The Spartans struck early and often, scoring six runs in the first two innings to seize control. Cody Veneziano led the way, both at the plate and on the mound. He laced a two-run double in the first inning to ignite the offense, and then rolled through Clinton’s lineup, allowing only one hit over seven shutout innings. His combination of precise pitch location and efficient defense helped silence a Clinton squad that came in riding a 9-0 playoff victory over Mashpee. Uxbridge capitalized on mistakes and managed baserunners effectively, taking advantage of Clinton errors. The Spartans’ defense was airtight, turning routine ground balls into outs and preventing Clinton from gaining any traction. Before facing Clinton, Uxbridge survived a dramatic 3-2 extra-inning win over Oxford, capped by a walk-off bunt from Camden LaChapelle. Now, the Spartans must face top-seeded Pittsfield in the quarterfinals, a team that has outscored opponents 25-2 in its first two playoff games. Despite being heavy underdogs, Uxbridge’s balanced lineup and dominant pitching give them a chance to pull off the upset. The quarterfinal game is scheduled for Friday at 7 PM on the road, and a win would keep this Spartan postseason run alive.
