WESTBOROUGH – Westborough’s next fire chief will come from within the ranks of the department.
The Select Board voted on June 9 to limit the search for the town’s next fire chief to current members of the Westborough Fire Department. The decision follows a recommendation from Fire Chief Patrick Purcell, who is scheduled to retire later this year.
According to the Community Advocate, Purcell told town officials that the department has a strong group of experienced candidates ready to assume leadership roles. By conducting an internal search, town leaders hope to maintain continuity within the department while building upon existing operations and community relationships.
The selection process is expected to continue over the coming months ahead of Purcell’s retirement.
