Mendon Delays Providence Street Culvert Replacement

MENDON – A long-awaited project to replace the aging Providence Street culvert has been pushed back until next spring.

Town officials had hoped to begin construction this summer but were unsuccessful in securing a major state grant that would have covered nearly half the cost of the project. The grant would have provided approximately $1 million toward the estimated $2.1 million replacement.

According to the Mendon Commons, Town Meeting voters previously approved a $2 million debt authorization for the work, meaning the town still has a path forward if additional state or federal funding is not obtained. Officials continue to describe the culvert replacement as a critical infrastructure project.
