Hopkinton has been awarded a $127,000 grant from the state for some work on Fruit Street. The Town Manager says the project involves design work for replacing two undersized and deteriorating culverts over Whitehall Brook, where flooding has been an issue. The grant will also include training sessions to teach local roadway managers about culvert replacements, including lessons learned from this and other projects. The Town of Mendon is getting a $116,000 grant to do some field data collection and engineering work toward replacing a failing culvert on Providence Street over Spring Brook. The Brook is a cold-water fishery which flows into critical natural landscape, core habitat, and priority habitat for rare species. The money is from an overall grant program of more than $2.9 million to support ecological restoration projects across Massachusetts through the Department of Fish and Game.
