GRAFTON – Increased bear activity in the area has prompted Grafton Police to issue a reminder to residents about bear safety.

Officials recommend never intentionally feeding bears, removing bird feeders, securing trash and compost containers, protecting livestock with electric fencing when possible, and checking yards before letting pets outside. If you encounter a bear, police advise speaking calmly while slowly backing away and never running. If a bear attacks, officials say to fight back.
