MILFORD – Milford Police Chief Robert Tusino says the department’s efforts to improve traffic safety around schools are making a difference.
Tusino tells the Daily News that Operation Safe School Zone is focused on educating drivers about school-zone laws rather than simply writing tickets. He says one important reminder is that the 20-mile-per-hour school-zone speed limit is in effect 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, not just during school hours or when warning signs are flashing.
Tusino says there are plenty of children’s activities at schools outside normal hours, including evenings, weekends and during the summer, making it important for drivers to remain aware of the reduced speed limit.
