MASSACHUSETTS – The Extreme Heat Warning remains in effect through Saturday night as dangerous temperatures continue across the region.
Today’s heat index values are expected to reach between 100 and 115 degrees, with Saturday’s heat index forecast between 95 and 100 degrees.
Several local communities have opened cooling centers for residents seeking relief. In Milford, all town buildings are closed for the holiday, but the Birch Street Fire Station is open as a cooling center. Franklin residents can cool off at the Franklin Public Library, while Medway’s Senior Center is open as a cooling center. In Mendon, the Senior Center is available until 1 p.m. today, and Blackstone’s Senior Center is welcoming residents until 4:30 p.m.
Officials continue to urge everyone to stay hydrated, avoid prolonged outdoor activity, and check on elderly neighbors, relatives, and anyone who may be vulnerable to the extreme heat.
