By MyFM’s Claire Beverly – A bronze statue will be unveiled this weekend of Spencer the flag carrying golden retriever who for years inspired Boston Marathon runners along West Union Street. Spencer died in 2023 at the age of 13. Spencer’s owner Rich Powers tells the Daily News funding for the $40,000 sculpture was crowdsourced thanks to some volunteers who put together a committee, and it was created by Jeff Buccacio of Canton. It has been placed near what was Spencer’s usual spot at Frankland Road.
