MARLBOROUGH/FRANKLIN – As the FIFA World Cup gets underway, the MetroWest Boston Visitors Bureau has received an additional $50,000 grant from the Massachusetts Office of Travel and Tourism to support the region’s official Fan Zone events.
The funding will help cover public safety expenses for the World Cup watch parties taking place in Marlborough this week and in Franklin on June 24th and 25th. The latest award comes in addition to a previously announced $120,000 grant that supported planning, infrastructure, marketing, logistics, and public safety efforts.
Organizers say the Fan Zones will provide residents and visitors with free opportunities to watch matches on giant screens while enjoying food vendors, entertainment, and family-friendly activities.
