Mansfield boys’ soccer remained unbeaten with a 2-0 victory over King Philip, overcoming a strong second-half response from the Warriors to secure the shutout.
The Hornets struck first in the 13th minute when Tyler Gentili scored from deep, giving Mansfield an early 1-0 advantage.
King Philip came out with increased pressure in the second half, but Mansfield’s defense held firm and kept the Warriors off the scoreboard.
With just two minutes remaining, Julius Sykes doubled the lead after pouncing on a rebound in front of the net and slipping the ball into the goal to put the game away.
The victory moves Mansfield to 2-0 on the season, with the Hornets set to face Milford at 4 p.m. tonight. The matchup is listed for Sept. 17 at 4 p.m.
