Nipmuc came away with a thrilling 28-27 victory over Uxbridge on Saturday afternoon in a back-and-forth football matchup.
Nipmuc’s Sam Moshier got the Warriors off to a strong start with a rushing touchdown, but Uxbridge answered right back as starting quarterback Shea Paxton found the end zone on a rushing touchdown of his own to tie the game.
The two quarterbacks continued to trade rushing touchdowns as the game opened up. Paxton found the end zone on the ground for his second rushing score of the day, while Nipmuc quarterback Tyler Rainbow answered with two touchdowns of his own, one rushing and another through the air to Ryan Zanchi, putting Nipmuc ahead.
The game started as a defensive battle before both teams came alive in the fourth quarter. A three-touchdown fourth quarter came down to the wire, with Nipmuc holding on for the one-point victory.
Sam Moshier continued his productive day with a long touchdown run, but Uxbridge refused to go away. The Spartans answered with two touchdowns of their own, including Paxton’s third touchdown of the game and a touchdown pass to Blake Rosborough.
With a chance to take the lead, Uxbridge went for two, but the conversion attempt was unsuccessful. Nipmuc’s defense came up with the stop to preserve the 28-27 victory.
Moshier finished the day with two touchdowns, while the Nipmuc defense made the biggest play of the afternoon, securing the one-point win in the final moments.
