GRAFTON — Grafton Post 92 mounted multiple rallies but came up one run short Sunday afternoon, falling 6-5 to North County Post 193 in a tightly contested District 4 American Legion Baseball matchup.
Trailing 2-0 after the opening inning, Grafton chipped away throughout the game. The visitors got on the board in the third before erupting for three runs in the fifth inning to take a brief 4-2 lead. North County answered immediately with three runs in the bottom half of the inning to reclaim the advantage, and after Grafton tied the game in the seventh, North County walked it off with the winning run in the bottom of the frame.
Charlie Law paced the Grafton offense with a 2-for-4 performance, scoring a run from the leadoff spot. Haylan Oberg also collected two hits, drove in a run, and reached base three times. CJ Chagnon added an RBI single and a walk, while Luke Stevens tripled and drove in a run. Landan Swain crossed the plate twice, helping keep Grafton within striking distance all afternoon.
On the mound, Andrew Beauregard battled through all seven innings for Grafton, allowing five earned runs on 10 hits while striking out three. Despite taking the loss, Beauregard kept Post 92 in the game long enough for the offense to rally multiple times.
Grafton finished with five hits and showed resilience throughout the contest, overcoming an early deficit and twice fighting back to either take or tie the lead. Although the comeback effort ultimately fell just short, Post 92 remained competitive until the final at-bat in one of the weekend’s closest District 4 matchups.
