ATTLEBORO — Third-seeded Attleboro punched its ticket to the MIAA Division 1 Softball Final Four for the first time in program history with a dominant 10-0 shutout victory over No. 6 Bridgewater-Raynham in Saturday’s state quarterfinal. The Blue Bombardiers improved to 17-6 and will face undefeated No. 2 Central Catholic in the Division 1 semifinals Tuesday at UMass Dartmouth.
Attleboro’s offense erupted for 10 runs on 10 hits, scoring in five different innings. Freshman catcher Rayna Bennett-Araujo opened the scoring with an RBI single before junior shortstop Lola Ronayne delivered the big blow, launching a two-run home run. Ronayne finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBIs while recording her 100th career hit.
Senior Sophie Borges enjoyed a memorable afternoon, going 1-for-4 with a three-run homer and four RBIs. Savannah Boedeker added a strong performance at the plate, finishing 4-for-5 with three RBIs and a run scored. Jenna Callahan helped her own cause with a hit and two runs scored, while Kaylee Magnan contributed a hit and an RBI.
Callahan was equally impressive in the circle, tossing a complete-game shutout. The senior scattered six hits over seven innings, struck out six, and walked three while throwing 100 pitches. She stranded multiple Bridgewater-Raynham threats to keep the Trojans off the scoreboard throughout the contest.
Bridgewater-Raynham collected six hits in the loss, with Claire Roy and Maddie O’Keefe each recording a hit and a run-producing opportunity. Chloe Martin added a hit, while Ella Maynard scored one of the Trojans’ six hits. Maidi DeLano started in the circle and worked five innings, allowing seven hits and six earned runs while striking out six. Carly McEwan pitched the final inning and surrendered three hits and four runs.
The Blue Bombardiers now turn their attention to Tuesday’s Division 1 Final Four matchup against No. 2 Central Catholic (22-0) at UMass Dartmouth, with a trip to the state championship game on the line.
