MILFORD — Franklin Post 75 continued its unbeaten season Tuesday night, edging Sandwich Post 188 3-2 at Fino Field to advance to the championship round of the Massachusetts American Legion Baseball State Tournament.
With the victory, Franklin improves to a perfect 21-0 and becomes the final team to reach Wednesday’s championship game. Post 75 will now face host Milford Post 59, which earned its spot earlier in the day with an 11-3 victory over Hyde Park.
Franklin broke through in the third inning, scoring all three of its runs to build what proved to be a game-winning lead. Sandwich answered with two runs in the fourth but could get no closer as Franklin’s pitching staff shut the door over the final three innings.
Despite collecting just four hits, Franklin capitalized on its opportunities by drawing five walks and taking advantage of a Sandwich error.
Owen Miller, Patrick Luizzi, and Joe Goguen all collected RBI’s in the win. Gavin Heneghan also collected a base hit. Ethan Edmunds showed great discipline at the plate, drawing two walks.
On the mound, Cal McKenna earned the win, allowing two runs, both unearned, on two hits over four innings while striking out four. Aidan Clark was outstanding in relief, tossing three scoreless innings, allowing just one hit while striking out four to earn the save.
Sandwich managed only three hits in the contest. Joe Medeiros, Connor Oliver, and William Johnson each recorded a hit, while the team struck out 10 times against Franklin pitching.
The win sends Franklin into Wednesday’s championship round still unbeaten at 21-0, while Sandwich’s season comes to a close.
