BELLINGHAM – Bellingham Public Schools has been awarded a $24,900 grant through the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education’s Civics Teaching and Learning Grant program.
The funding is part of nearly $890,000 awarded to 28 school districts across Massachusetts to expand access to civics education. The grants support educator professional development, stronger civics curricula and hands-on learning opportunities that allow students to participate in civic projects and local and statewide showcases.
State Representative Michael J. Soter announced the award, saying the funding will provide Bellingham educators and students with additional resources to strengthen civics education and encourage students to become informed and engaged members of their communities.
The grants are funded through the Commonwealth’s Civics Project Trust Fund and also help schools implement student-led, nonpartisan civic action projects required under Massachusetts law.
Bellingham Public Schools was one of 28 districts selected for funding in the latest round of grants.
