BELLINGHAM – Bellingham is becoming the latest local community to discontinue its use of Flock Safety license plate reader cameras.
Police Chief Kenneth Fitzgerald says the department will allow its contract with Flock Safety to expire September 4th, citing concerns primarily involving pricing and transparency surrounding how information collected by the cameras is processed.
Fitzgerald acknowledged that losing the technology could have an impact on police work. Some investigations may take longer, and officers could have more difficulty quickly identifying vehicles believed to be connected to crimes.
Bellingham’s decision follows similar moves in neighboring communities. Hopkinton and Grafton have both announced within the past week that they are ending their use of Flock Safety cameras.
