MENDON — Clough Elementary School is looking for volunteer coaches to help lead its Girls on the Run program this fall.

The school is seeking two coaches for the upcoming season. Organizers say volunteers do not need to be runners to participate, emphasizing that the program is focused on much more than running.

Girls on the Run combines physical activity with lessons designed to help participants build confidence, perseverance and resilience. This fall’s curriculum, called “Hello, Mountain Mover!”, is intended to help girls recognize their ability to take on challenges and do difficult things.

The Clough Elementary team is expected to include eight to 15 girls, supported by two to three volunteer coaches.

The season will run for eight weeks, with practices held twice each week. At Clough Elementary, practices are scheduled for Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:15 to 4:30 p.m.

The season begins the week of Sept. 21 and will conclude the week of Nov. 16. Participants will also take part in a celebratory 5K at Polar Park on Sunday, Nov. 15.

Coaches will help girls develop confidence when facing challenges, strengthen resilience and learn strategies for persevering when things become difficult.

Those interested in volunteering can contact Mary Hescock, Program Coordinator for Girls on the Run Worcester County, at [email protected] or 508-266-7396, ext. 2005.
