HOPKINTON – Hopkinton’s Interim Police Chief is reassuring residents about how the department uses its Flock Safety license plate reader cameras.
In a public statement posted on the department’s social media pages, Interim Chief Scott van Raalten said the system is used only to identify vehicles connected to criminal investigations, public safety incidents, or missing persons cases.
Van Raalten emphasized that all collected data is encrypted throughout the process and is not shared with outside parties. He said the technology is an important tool that helps the department keep pace with modern public safety needs while protecting residents’ privacy.
