MILFORD — Milford Post 59 continued its outstanding run Wednesday night, defeating Shrewsbury Post 397 5-4 at Fino Field to extend its winning streak to nine games.

After Tuesday night’s scheduled game against Main South was postponed because of inclement weather, Milford returned to the field and earned another hard-fought District 4 victory.

Shrewsbury opened the scoring with a run in the second inning before Milford answered with two runs in the bottom of the third to take its first lead of the night. Post 397 responded with single runs in the fourth and fifth innings to move back in front 3-2, but Milford immediately answered with an two-run inside-the-park home run courtesy of Sam Schoenberg to take a 4-3 lead.

In the top of the seventh, with Tyler Ballard occupying first base, Cole McGovern knocked a ball straight to the third baseman, but an errant throw allowed Ballard to round third and score the eventual game winning run. In the bottom half of the seventh, Shrewsbury would close the gap to just one run, and eventually load the bases, only for them to be left stranded.

Schoenberg powered the Milford offense, finishing 2-for-3 with a home run, four RBIs, and a run scored. His fifth-inning homer sparked the comeback and accounted for four of Post 59’s five runs.

Nick Pedroli earned the complete-game victory, allowing four runs (two earned) on 10 hits over seven innings while walking one and striking out two. Pedroli also helped himself at the plate, putting up a double and two runs scored.

Milford also received contributions from Tyler Ballard, who doubled and scored a run, Ben Maiorano, who singled, scored, and stole a base, Sean Burchard, who added a hit, and Cole McGovern, who drove in a run with a single.

Shrewsbury totaled 10 hits in the loss, led by Drew O’Connell, who had two hits and an RBI, while Tim McDonough collected two hits and drove in two runs. Brendan Parisi took the loss, surrendering five runs (four earned) over 5.1 innings while striking out six.

With the victory, Milford improved its winning streak to nine games, going stride for stride with Leominster Post 151. Both teams hold a 14-2 record and tied for the top spot in the District 4 standings.
