HOPKINTON – Deputy Police Chief Scott van Raalten will serve as Hopkinton’s interim police chief when Chief Joseph Bennett retires at the end of the month.
The Hopkinton Select Board voted 4-0, with one member abstaining, to appoint van Raalten as interim chief effective July 1. Bennett is retiring after a 35-year career in law enforcement, including six years as Hopkinton’s police chief.
According to the Hopkinton Independent, the Select Board has completed the formation of a search committee that will work alongside a consulting firm to identify candidates for the permanent position. Van Raalten will lead the department during the transition period until a new chief is selected.
