Northbridge’s softball team experienced both ends of the spectrum over the last two games, following a huge win over Blackstone-Millville with a rough loss to Oxford yesterday. The Rams had looked fantastic on Tuesday afternoon when they rolled past the Chargers 27-5, but the matchup with Oxford proved far more difficult.
Against Blackstone-Millville, Northbridge exploded early by scoring 15 runs in the first two innings. Lorelai Drapeau hit a home run and drove in five runs, Kylie Grazulis collected four hits and five RBIs, and Kallie Tevepaugh added three hits and five RBIs. That offensive burst helped the Rams cruise in a game where everything seemed to go right.
Oxford was a different story. The Pirates jumped out fast and scored 16 runs in the first two innings of a shortened five-inning contest, eventually winning 22-4. Northbridge could not recover from the early avalanche, though Tevepaugh was a bright spot with two hits and Isabelle Stanley added a home run and three RBIs. The loss drops the Rams to 4-5 and marks their second defeat in the last three games.
Northbridge has the weekend off before facing Douglas on Monday at 3:30 p.m. The Tigers are 6-3 and coming off a 9-6 win over Burncoat, so this will be another strong test for a Rams team looking to regain momentum.
