WESTBOROUGH – Builders planning new projects in Westborough will face stricter energy standards beginning in 2027. At Town Meeting, residents voted 120-72 to adopt a new energy code, which will officially take effect on January 1, 2027.

According to the Community Advocate, more than 55 towns across Massachusetts have already adopted similar codes, which promote the use of renewable energy sources like solar. Officials note the new rules will apply only to new construction, not renovations.
