Whitinsville Christian responded to its season-opening loss in emphatic fashion Monday afternoon, sweeping Blackstone-Millville 5-0 in a dominant girls tennis performance. The Crusaders looked sharp from the start and controlled every match on the court, bouncing back well after falling to Hopedale 4-1 in their opener last Friday.
Charlotte DeFrancisco set the tone with a perfect 6-0, 6-0 win over Casey Shea at first singles. Arielle Zdanis followed with a 6-0, 6-1 victory at second singles, and Genevieve Tatuilli added another strong result with a 6-0, 6-1 win at third singles. The Crusaders were just as effective in doubles, where Hadasyah Mestres and Hadley DeFrancisco won 6-1, 6-0 at first doubles, and Avery Dertien and Alexi Gilchrist completed the sweep with a 6-0, 6-0 victory at second doubles.
The performance gave Whitinsville Christian its first win of the season and showed how quickly the team can reset after a loss. The Crusaders were far more consistent in this matchup and looked comfortable in every spot of the lineup. That kind of balance should serve them well as the season progresses.
Whitinsville Christian now turns its attention to Tantasqua next Tuesday at 4 p.m. Tantasqua is currently 0-3 and will play Doherty Memorial tomorrow afternoon before meeting the Crusaders, giving Whitinsville a chance to keep building momentum.
