Holliston’s girls’ track and field team turned in a strong winter campaign, and Lucy Downin was at the center of it. The Panthers collected multiple top-five finishes at the D2 State Championships and finished fourth overall as a team, making the meet one of the high points of their season.
Downin delivered one of the biggest performances of the championships by winning the mile with a time of 4:53.53. Reis Pirelli added a fourth-place finish in the shot put, while Holliston’s 4×800 relay team also finished fourth, helping the Panthers secure their strong team placement. Downin’s victory gave Holliston a major individual title and underlined just how productive the Panthers were across the board.
Downin was later invited to the 2026 Meet of Champions, where she competed in the 1000 dash and came up just short in an incredibly close race against Newton South’s Emily Frawley. Frawley finished in 2:54.371, while Downin crossed in 2:54.376. Even in defeat, Downin showed how high her ceiling is, especially considering she is only a freshman. Holliston should be a team to watch again in outdoor track and field, with Downin positioned to remain one of the state’s top young runners.
