The Hopkinton Hillers boys’ indoor track team captured the D2 state championship this past weekend, delivering on the lofty expectations that had them ranked No. 3 in the division. Hopkinton jumped out early, collecting big points in the 55-meter hurdles where Harry Millar and Jacob Logan finished first and second, respectively, with Braden Lu adding a seventh-place finish to the team total.

Sean Finnegan continued his strong season by finishing second in both the mile and the two-mile, contributing critical points that kept Hopkinton in contention. The meet came down to the 4×400 relay, where the quartet of Jason O’Connell, John Knutson, Iago Ferreira, and Ian Weilding ran a race that sealed the title for Hopkinton. Their second-place finish in the 4×400 pushed the Hillers just ahead of Concord Carlisle in a nail-biter, 69.5-69, underscoring how slender margins decide championships.

This marks Hopkinton’s first state title in indoor track in decades and highlights the program’s steady rise. The team’s blend of individual stars and relay depth provided a balanced scoring attack, and the championship provides momentum and confidence as the Hillers look toward outdoor season and future state-level challenges.
