WESTBOROUGH – After nearly a decade of legal challenges and delays, the long-vacant Regal Cinemas building on Turnpike Road has officially been sold and will be repurposed as a Hindu house of worship.

According to the Community Advocate, the property sold for approximately $5 million following approval from a Bankruptcy Court. The site had been tied up for years due to ownership disputes and significant back taxes owed to the Town.

As part of the sale, Westborough will receive $1.64 million in outstanding taxes, fees, and accrued interest, resolving long-standing financial issues associated with the property.

Town officials say the transaction closes a complicated chapter for one of Westborough’s most visible vacant properties, while opening a new one as the building is transformed into a religious and community space.
