BLACKSTONE — As Central Massachusetts dug out from the first major snowstorm of 2026, one local business made the decision to stay open when many others closed their doors. Simply Tires by Harpins, located at 631 Rathbun Street in Blackstone, helped six customers get safely back on the road during the height of the storm.
The winter system dropped close to 15 inches of snow in some areas, leaving many residents stranded at home or unsure how they would make it to work. During those challenging conditions, Simply Tires by Harpins remained open to assist drivers dealing with damaged or unsafe tires.
Co-owner Lianie said the experience was both demanding and rewarding. One customer arrived after striking a snowbank and curb, which destroyed her tire and left her stranded on the highway for hours. Because the shop was open, the customer was able to receive immediate help the following morning. The team installed a used tire, mounted and balanced it, and ensured she could safely get back on the road.
Despite initial concerns about whether opening during the storm made sense, Lianie said her husband felt strongly that someone might need help. When they arrived at the shop, snow had already piled up throughout the parking lot. After clearing the area, they opened the doors — and customers soon followed.
Among those helped was a college student who needed to return to school in New Hampshire. Driving a large pickup truck with worn tires, he brought in four new tires to be mounted. Thanks to the shop’s assistance, he was able to continue his journey safely.
Lianie said the gratitude shown by customers throughout the storm reinforced why community support is so important. She added that Simply Tires by Harpins is guided by values rooted in faith, kindness, and service.
Though the owners have operated the business for just two months, Lianie said they already feel a strong sense of purpose. The shop frequently assists elderly customers with tire checks or air at no charge, ensuring their vehicles are safe before they leave. Complimentary coffee and tea are also offered, helping create a welcoming atmosphere.
Simply Tires by Harpins also provides a 10 percent discount for seniors, veterans, police officers, firefighters, medical professionals, and other first responders as a way to give back to those who serve the community.
The shop offers a wide range of services, including new and used tires, tire repairs, balancing and rotations, wheel alignments, shocks, struts, suspension work, brake services, oil changes, and TPMS services. While the business focuses on tire and light mechanical work, it does not perform heavy mechanical repairs.
Residents can contact Simply Tires by Harpins at 508-883-6619 or visit the shop in person at 631 Rathbun Street in Blackstone.
As winter conditions continue, Lianie said the goal remains simple: to help people feel safe, supported, and cared for when they need it most.
