Grafton Select Board Moves to Keep Community Preservation Committee Intact

GRAFTON – The Grafton Select Board appears poised to keep the town’s Community Preservation Committee in place, despite suggestions to eliminate it as a way to help address a looming $1.4 million budget shortfall. As the Community Advocate reports, residents currently pay a 1.5 percent property tax surcharge that funds the committee’s work on open space, historic preservation, and affordable housing.

As town officials look for ways to rein in spending, some proposed dissolving the CPC and redirecting the surcharge to the town’s general operating budget. However, other Select Board members rejected that idea, arguing that the Community Preservation Committee provides essential benefits to the town and should remain a priority.
