WESTBOROUGH – There is another attempt underway to allow digital billboards in town, revisiting an issue voters rejected just a few years ago.
In 2022, Westborough voters voted down a proposal that would have allowed digital billboards along I-495 and I-90, citing concerns about driver distraction and fairness to smaller local businesses. Now, the issue is resurfacing with a new proposal tied to a specific location.
According to The Community Advocate, media company Outfront is seeking to install a digital billboard on Flanders Road facing I-495. In response, the Westborough Planning Board has placed a sign bylaw zoning article on the warrant for the March Town Meeting.
Before Town Meeting voters weigh in, the proposal will be discussed at a Planning Board public hearing scheduled for February 3.
